St. Pat’s For All Parade – March 1, 2009

April 18, 2009 · Posted in Uncategorized
On March 1st, 2009, RMO joined the celebration of diversity and the call of the bagpipes for the 10th annual St. Pat’s For All Parade and Fair in Sunnyside/Woodside. Despite overcast skies, the band’s energy and spirit helped get the crowds moving. We marched with community groups, unions, pipers, dancers and puppeteers, religious communities, youth groups, seniors, gay and straight, all celebrating our wonderful diversity.  The honorees for the 2009 celebration were Belfast born director and screenwriter Terry George and singer Susan McKeown.
‘St Pats for All organizes, produces and hosts the annual the St Pats for All Parade and Fair in New York City. The parade welcomes all to celebrate Irish heritage and culture regardless of race, gender, creed or sexual orientation.. First held in 2000, St. Pat’s for All cherishes and celebrates an inclusive St. Patrick’s season. It is the first in the 260 years + of Irish parades in New York City to be open and welcoming to all who wish share the spirit of the day. The Parade’s theme “cherishing all the children of the nation equally” is taken from the 1916 Easter Proclamation of the Irish Republic. It is a vision drawn from our past and a guide for our present & future.’
